Good Morning Blues Fans and Happy April Fools day!
Things here have actually been busy, lots of phone calls asking why we cancelled, lots of not so nice emails to respond to, but overall, the response has been great, and most people are understanding.
I am fully vaccinated! And I know that’s a touchy subject, and do what you want, I’m just telling you what I’ve done.
I’ve been in a lot of talks with the City of Flagstaff about events. To be honest, they don’t know. This is uncharted waters we are all in, and they are doing the best they can. Mostly taking the advice of the CDC which still is against large gatherings, which is understandable. So right now, I’m just advocating for things like the Farmers Market, the Festival of Science, etc. We have a lot of events here in the summer and I hate that they are all getting lumped into one category. I know my event is large, I also know that our festival community would not want to be 6 feet away from other people, but these other events I think can happen and should happen this summer. We now have monthly meetings, one with the parks department and one with the City Manager. It’s nice they are taking the time to help us and listen to our concerns.
So, while I’ve been in my office this past month, I’ve been looking at all things Blues Festival. Everything! And I’m looking at other festivals to see what they are doing or have done. Why reinvent the wheel? I’m just gathering so much information right now, I have notes everywhere! So, I wanted to ask all of you, you know the people who pay to come to the Festival! What have you seen at other festivals or events that we should do? Or is there an idea you’ve been dying to tell me about that can improve our festival? Now is the time to tell me, so I can make them happen in 2022. I don’t want advice on artists – been there and done that. This is about the bones of the event, the on-site stuff, or lack of stuff. Food, beer, Merch, tents, parking.
What can I do to make this festival even better than it is now?
