Today I wanted to share about our Friday night headliner, Cedric Burnside!

Did you know he has been nominated for the 2022 Grammy’s for Best Traditional Blues Album for “I be trying”.

The Mississippi Hill Country blues guitarist and singer/songwriter contains within him the legacy and future of the region’s prescient sound stories.
Burnside’s blues inheritance, the North Mississippi Hill Country blues, is distinct from its Delta or Texas counterparts in its commitment to polyrhythmic percussion and its refusal of familiar blues chord progressions. Often, and especially in Burnside’s care, it leads with extended riffs that become sentences or pleas or exclamations, rendering the guitar like its Across some nine individual and collaborative album projects, Burnside’s voice eases seamlessly into, through, and behind the riffs spirit gifts him, carrying listeners to a deep Mississippi well.

Burnside’s two Grammy-nominated album projects— the 2015 Descendants of Hill Country and 2018’s Benton County Relic—were both capstone statements for a lifetime of musical labor channeling the blues spirit on drums, guitar, and vocals in the North Mississippi Hill Country tradition.

Burnside has had many Blues Music Award Nominations and wins. He has been nominated for Best Blues Instrumentalist – Drums 9 times and has won 8 times. In 2016 he was nominated for Best Traditional Male Blues Artist and Best Traditional Blues Album. In 2019 he was again nominated for Best Traditional Male Blues Artist.

And this year he’s been nominated again for Best Traditional Male Blues Artist. The winners have not been chosen yet, but keep an eye out!
Cedric will bring his incredible talent to Flagstaff on Friday June 10th at 7:30 pm. We hope you’ll come out to see why this man is so incredible at what he does.
