It’s no joke, the Flagstaff Blues Festival is almost here

Hi Blues Fans!

Happy April Fool’s Day and March Maddess is this afternoon! Well Since I wrote you last we got more snow here in Flagstaff, I am very much ready for the warm weather to return and stay. Our Headliner, Larkin Poe was on Jimmy Kimmel! I’ve also secured a few new sponsors that I am very excited about. It’s been a very busy but productive month!

As I write this, we are getting VERY low on VIP tickets, less than 50 total are left. I’ll move things around if I need to add another to Friday or Saturday but I’m telling you a 2-day VIP is the way to go!

I thought I would spend this newsletter talking about the Charity we benefit, the Flagstaff Unified School District Foundation. This is a group of volunteers who raise money for the Flagstaff Unified School District. There are no paid staff, and they do it all out of the want to make sure our students are getting the best possible education. With our partnership in 2022 we were able to raise almost $22,000!
The foundation created the Debbi Grogan Memorial Fund in honor of my mother and her passion of music education. All of this $22,000 went to music education in Flagstaff. The board asked music teachers to submit applications for funding they needed and in the end, they gave out all $22,000 this last school year.

They funded things like 15 ukulele for a 5th grade class so they all can play. They repaired 3 soprano metallophones and bought new nesting hand drums for another class. One middle school hasn’t had updated choral music since the 70s, so they funded that. They funded a class get music tutoring from local musicians. A Kindergarten class asked for small items so they could make musical instruments to play every morning. A high school got new guitar bags as well as new percussion equipment. An elementary school needed repairs made to their violins, so they funded that. Another high school needed a new Flue and Saxaphone, so that was funded. Another class was able to go on a field trip and compose music to go along with that field trip, and had the local symphony play it for them! The request list was much longer than this, but for $22,000 I’d say they made some really good investments.

I’m very excited to see how much money we are able to raise this year and again, they plan to give it all away in the 23/24 school year.

I also want to thank our sponsors, this event would absolutely not be possible without their support. So I am going to be kind of annoying and list and link them all here. Please check them out, visit their business, support them anyway you can.
