March 13, 2018 Update

Hello Blues Fans!

I hope everyone who was at the Blues Blast bought their tickets to Blues and Brews!  We are very excited about the lineup.  Now that we’ve hit March, things are really going to start ramping up.

I’m going to need everyone to send some positive juju Jen’s and my way.  On February 22nd I went to the ER with a pain in my side and they discovered a tumor in the tail of my pancreas and 2 on my liver.  Yep, stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  I have an incredible team at MD Anderson in Gilbert and I’ll be going once a week for chemo for 6 months.  As you read this, I’m probably getting the port put into place, and the week of the 19th or the 26th, the chemo will begin to flow.  I’m trying to get into drug trials, who’s to say I won’t be the first to receive a cure?  After the chemo, I plan on living a long-life tumor free!  I feel good about MD, what an amazing facility, and I am still very healthy.  No pain, no jaundice, no nausea, or any of the symptoms really.  The only symptom I have is losing weight and seriously, what woman is going to bitch about losing 25 pounds?  NOT this one!!!!

So, take a deep breath and believe I will beat this.  I’ll give you updates, but for now, what I need is your belief in ME and my ability to kick this thing in the teeth and never give it a minute of my life.  I plan on being around for many years to come and making the Flagstaff Blues and Brews THE must attend festival of the summer.  So, come on board Team Deb, and believe we can beat this.  I sure do!

Now, back to the festival.  Jen was at the Blues Blast in Phoenix where I understand Kim Wilson from the Fabulous Thunderbirds made a surprise visit and played on stage!   WOW, how cool is that
Sorry I missed it!   Jen said it was a fun day, a bit cool and damp, but overall a great day.

Vendors are starting to come on board.  Poor Jen is now handling everything, but the vendors are the funniest.  They all want to be on our list and they all want to come, but they won’t send in the applications until March, April and believe me MAY is the motherload!   LOL.   Who wants to write a check for the fee until the very last minute? My favorite are the ones who call while we’re setting up on Friday, asking if we can fit them in!  FYI, Friday (set up day), is a beast, and neither Jen, or I are very patient with people who can’t plan more than 2 days in the future.  If you want to vend and get in front of thousands of people, then get those applications in now.  This year, we will have to watch how many we get and may have to turn people away. We mapped out the venue and the vendor tents and can accommodate 48 and that’s it. We currently have 21 spaces filled, which leaves us 27 more we will allow in.
AND if you know of specific Food Vendors – please give them our information. We only have one maybe 2 spots but telling us more variety doesn’t help. Give us specifics on what food you want and we will make every effort to get it.

Get your tickets, get your hotel rooms and Jen and I will take care of making sure this is the best Flagstaff Blues and Brews you’ve ever attended!
