Hi Blues Fans!
I hope everyone is doing good and enjoying this awesome weather! April just flew by! I’ve been so busy, and I am loving it!!! It’s been a year of being slow, and now I’m finally working again.
Some updates – I applied for the Shuttered Venues Grant; fingers crossed. I know there are thousands of people, venues, etc. that could use the money and I hope we all get the help we need. I’ve been hired to help coordinate two family events later this year – that hasn’t happened in YEARS!
Myself, along with my other event producers in Flagstaff have been urging City Council to consider opening for outdoor events, in a safe way! I’m happy to report that they said yes! We still must socially distance, and encourage mask wearing but it’s a step in the right direction. So, I’m sure you’ll start seeing events pop up in the Flagstaff area from July – October! This is a great resource if you’re looking for more information – Click Here.
It does feel like life is starting to get back to normal, and that people are able to decide what is best for themselves when it comes to events, dining out and traveling.
The biggest thing I’ve been up to… planning a small, VERY SMALL Blues event. That’s right, June 12th at the Orpheum Theater in Downtown Flagstaff, I’ll be bringing in some blues artists for your listening pleasure. It will be an afternoon into the evening event. I’m trying to get 4 possibly 5 bands.
Now… before anyone jumps down my throat, I picked The Orpheum because they are doing things safely. Socially distanced, encouraging masks, sanitizing, and most importantly they aren’t open to full capacity. They could be according to the governor; however, this is what they have decided and I’m 100% on board with their decision. This theater can hold over 1,000 people but this event will only be for 250. Which means you’ll have plenty of room, and hopefully you’ll feel safe. They have the lounge area, two seating areas, dance floor, and I’m going to rent the side space which is outdoors.
This is all coming together quickly, and not everything is solidified before I had to send this newsletter, so please keep an eye out on our FB page for more details. Follow the Orpheum on FB.
As always, I will send YOU, our blues family, the notice about ticket sales first.
I’ll be honest, I had given up on this year. I thought there was no way I could do anything, and then I spoke to a fellow Event Planner, Deb and she convinced me to do something. Now, this isn’t going to have the big name bands… I still had a full year with no income. This will be an event about the Blues, and staying in front of you. I don’t want you to forget about the incredible festival we’ve built, so I’m hoping this will tide you over until we can be together in 2022 with big bands, lots of sunshine and grass and all of you hugging each other and dancing with each other!
Happy May and please stay tuned!
