Get to know Southern Avenue and Kenny Neal!

Hello Blues Fans!

Well it has been a really busy week! I’ve been sharing a few of our merchandise items, trust me I have plenty more to share, my garage is proof of that. We’ve also finalized our beer, wine and cocktail list.

Bud Light (I don’t want to hear it, this is the number one seller every year), Michelob Ultra, Mother Road Tower Station, Mother Road Tower Station Roadside Grove (OMG I love this beer), Mother Road Sunday Drive, Four Peaks Kilt Lifter, Four Peaks Wow Wheat, The Shop Church Music (very popular last year), Barrio Blonde, and Austin East Blood Orange Cider. We’ve also got Cutwater Lime Margarita, Vodka Mule, Rum Mai Thai and Tequila Paloma. We’ve got Nutrl Lemonade variety pack for seltzers. For wine we’ve got Babe Rose, 1912 White Blend and Red Bland and a Prosecco!

The weather up here has been well ODD! It’s been cooler than normal and raining almost every afternoon. Nothing hard, just sprinkling. It honestly feels like monsoon season. I see that this week we are supposed to turn a corner and start getting warm, and currently it shows our forecast as 75 and sunny. Now we both know that weather is unpredictable, but let’s all keep our fingers crossed for 75 and sunny!

Enough about Merch, beer and the weather! You came to learn about 2 more bands performing Saturday June 10th!

Southern Avenue is a band from Memphis, Tennessee, that includes members Tierinii Jackson (lead vocals), Ori Naftaly (guitar), Jeremy Powell (keyboards), Tikyra Jackson (drums, vocals), and Evan Sarver (bass guitar). The band was formed in 2013 when Naftaly moved to Memphis from Israel to compete in the International Blues Challenge, and while in Memphis he met lead singer Tierinii Jackson, and her sister, drummer Tikyra Jackson. The other members joined in 2015. The band is named after a street in Memphis, which ran from the easternmost point of the city to “Soulsville”, which was the original home of their record company, Stax Records. They have a total of 3 albums, and have toured the US. Oh and they got nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Blues Album and they were nominated for Band of the Year with the Blues Music Awards!

I am so excited to see this band, the energy is exactly what we need on Saturday afternoon. I hope you’re as excited as I am.

Kenny Neal is a guitar player and singer from Louisiana. He comes from a musical family, and has played alongside his brothers before. He is also the son of harmonica player Raful Neal. Aside from being a talented musician, he is also an actor, and performed on Broadway in 1991 in the folk musical “Mule Bone”, where he performed musical numbers written by another great blues musician known as Taj Mahal. He has played alongside greats such as Lucky Peterson and Lazy Lester, and was briefly a member of “The Downchild Blues Band”. He’s been nominated for three GRAMMYs. And has a very long award list, including Song of the Year, Best Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, and most recently Best Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year!

So I was told by another Blues Festival that I can’t just get Kenny, that I needed his horn section too. Well guess what, I took that advice, so not only will Kenny be performing but so will his horn section which I hear will BLOW US AWAY!
